Founding conductor of the Choeur Gai d’Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus, Gordon has an extensive musical background. He was tickling the keys of his parents’ Willis piano at the age of five and has since become an accomplished organist and harpist.

Gordon began conducting choruses even before his studies in music at the University of Calgary and Brigham Young University. While living in Utah, he was guest organist at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. The chorus continues to be grateful for the considerable gift of music that Gordon brought to the LGBTQ community in the National Capital Region.

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced all of us to change nearly every aspect of our lives. Despite the challenges of the past year, Tim Piper effectively used his combination of musical and artistic prowess, and mastery of virtual rehearsal and performance platforms, to expertly guide us through our new virtual environment to produce two very successful virtual performances. We are excited to continue working with Tim and look forward to thrilling our audiences under his innovative direction.

As the musical director of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church in Ottawa, and Chorale Lyrica, a series of choirs for children and youth in Gatineau, Tim brings a wealth of experience to the chorus. Tim has a Bachelor of Music (Carleton University) and an ARCT in Organ Performance. In 2001, he began serving as Music Associate at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa where he founded, and then directed the Cathedral Girls’ Choir for over a decade. Over his tenure, he took the choir on tour to Quebec City, Washington DC, and through Europe.

And if all that is not enough, Tim has a passion for writing his own original music. This past Spring, CGOGMC had the honour to perform a song that Tim co-wrote with his wife, Laura Piper, entitled “What I Can”. Originally inspired by a dear friend’s tenacity and dedication to her community, it grew to encompass the spirit that the world has had to take on in the face of the COVID pandemic. The song speaks of love, resilience and a commitment to serve in the face of adversity. It inspires us to find the strength to do what we can to help others during these challenging times.
